Project Description
In operation since 1993 Seagate Technology, which designs and manufactures hard drive storage devices, has become Derry’s largest employer, with a staff of almost 1,400. The Springtown factory makes a tiny specialised part for hard drives called a recording head.
Wallace Doherty were involved in a complex extension of a hi-tech manufacturing facility with clean rooms in an live manufacturing environment. The building solution was steel framed construction resting on a piled concrete raft. We provided site supervision services in conjunction with the structural design.
This project presented us with many obstacles including challenging ground conditions and the presence of numerous Mechanical and Electrical services. The concrete raft contained complex arrangements of reinforcement all of which had to be checked for compliance with the drawings & designs.
